Winter Sports Action Kicks Off in Arlington High Schools

Winter Sports Kickoff in Arlington Schools

This week marks the start of an exciting season of winter sports in Arlington, VA. After a successful fall campaign, high schools across the area are gearing up for a full schedule of action, including basketball, wrestling, swimming, diving, girls gymnastics, and ice hockey.

The buzz begins on Friday, December 6, with several matches and meets lined up. In boys basketball, we’ll see Dunbar facing Bishop O’Connell at 7:30 p.m., and Olympic at Wakefield, also at 7:30 p.m. Meanwhile, the girls basketball teams will take to the court, with Olympic playing at Wakefield at 5:45 p.m., and Dunbar visiting Bishop O’Connell at the same time. The evening wraps up with the boys basketball game between Westfield and Washington-Liberty at 7:30 p.m.

On the swimming and diving front, fans can catch exciting meets at various locations. Notably, Bishop O’Connell will compete at a meet hosted by Gallaudet University at 3 p.m., while Wakefield takes on Marshall at the Audrey Moore RECenter starting at 6 p.m.

Wrestling enthusiasts can expect some tough competition as Wakefield, Washington-Liberty, and Yorktown head to the Fairfax Invitational on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Ice hockey games will feature teams like Stone Bridge at Yorktown at 6 p.m. and Washington-Liberty facing Bishop O’Connell at 8 p.m., both at the MedStar Capitals Iceplex.

As the week goes on, multiple events will continue, leading to more opportunities for teams to showcase their skills and for fans to cheer them on. From cheerleading to track and field, there’s definitely something for everyone to enjoy as the winter sports season kicks off in Arlington!
