Volleyball Action Heats Up in Waterloo

Waterloo, NY – The high school volleyball playoffs were buzzing on Thursday evening, with exciting matches taking place in the Section V tournaments. The cloudy weather with a chance of rain didn’t dampen spirits or eagerness as teams took to the court to compete for a shot at the championship.

In a thrilling showdown, the Waterloo High School senior team faced off against Palmyra-Macedon in the Class B quarterfinals. Waterloo, ranked No. 5, successfully defeated No. 12 Pal-Mac in four sets, with scores of 25-16, 25-15, 25-27, and 25-18. Senior standout Natalie Jones proved pivotal, making stunning hits at the net, while junior Alana Rease from Pal-Mac did her best to block those powerful shots. Waterloo’s victory allows them to advance to the semifinals where they will play Aquinas Institute at a TBD location on November 2.

Meanwhile, at Seneca Falls Middle School, Mynderse Academy also secured their place in the next round after a decisive win against Rochester Prep. Mynderse, ranked No. 6, swept the match in straight sets with scores of 25-7, 25-9, and 25-22. Cheyenne Mangum shined with 9 aces and 9 assists, while Kyle Kolbash contributed with 5 kills and multiple aces.

Other matches of note included Midlakes, who secured a 3-0 victory over Livonia, and Penn Yan Academy pulling off a 3-1 win against Haverling. Both teams will continue their playoff journey this Saturday.
