Vermont High School Fall Sports Kick Off With Exciting Games

This week in Vermont, the high school fall sports season has officially begun, delivering a range of thrilling competitions across various sports including soccer, field hockey, volleyball, golf, and cross-country running. Multiple teams have already made a mark with impressive performances.

Soccer Highlights

In soccer, Rice triumphed over Essex with an impressive score of 4-0. Highlighted players included Violet Clough and Kate Larkin, who both scored two goals each, while Maryann Nunn assisted three times. This match was noteworthy as it was the first for the Green Knights on their brand new turf.

South Burlington also showcased their skills, defeating Middlebury with a dominating score of 8-0. Scorers included Oli Roy and Grace Landerman, who contributed significantly to the win.

Field Hockey Success

The Fair Haven team made waves by beating Woodstock 5-0. Star player Leigha Kretzer shone brightly with three goals and two assists, helping secure her team’s success.

Volleyball Updates

In volleyball, Essex took down Burlington with a 3-0 victory, marking scores of 25-17, 25-21, 25-14. Key performers included Hannah Knickerbocker, who made significant contributions with five kills and 17 digs.

Colchester also won against Montpelier 3-0 in a competitive match that finished with scores of 26-24, 25-13, 27-25.

As we look forward, there are many exciting matches scheduled for the upcoming days. On the schedule today, Springfield will face off against Brattleboro at 4:15 p.m. while numerous matches are set for 4:30 p.m., including Champlain Valley taking on Burlington.
