In St. Paul, high school sports continue to showcase some thrilling matchups and impressive performances. On the basketball courts, the boys’ teams had a notable night. Shakopee triumphed over Eastview with a solid score of 69-40, while Cretin-Derham Hall defeated East Ridge with an 83-64 victory. Other highlights included Mounds View narrowly beating Roseville 60-54 and Woodbury edging out White Bear Lake 62-58. In a thrilling overtime game, Two Rivers fought hard to win against St. Paul Como Park, finishing the matchup with a score of 80-78.
The girls’ teams also displayed their talents, with Minnehaha Academy dominating St. Croix Lutheran 87-58. Other notable scores included East Ridge overcoming Cretin-Derham Hall by a close margin of 61-57, and Stillwater showing their strength against Forest Lake with a score of 66-42.
In gymnastics, Central shined brightly with a strong performance against Johnson, recording a total of 114.675. The standout gymnast, Ellie Wohlever, led all-around scoring with 29.7.
The hockey scene brought excitement as well, with Delano defeating Mahtomedi 4-1, and a nail-biting tie of 3-3 between Minneapolis and Orono.
Nordic skiing saw impressive performances at Battle Creek Regional Park. In the boys’ event, St. Paul Central took home the top spot with a total score of 479, with Eric Anderson from Lake City earning the title of medalist with an impressive time of 7:24 in the 2.8k skate. Meanwhile, the girls’ competition was led by St. Paul Highland Park, scoring 486, with Hanna Koch finishing first among medalists at 8:01.
In swimming, Como Park secured a convincing win over Johnson with a tally of 93-54.
Wrestling results were also in the spotlight, with Highland Park triumphing over Washington 58-16, while Coon Rapids achieved a narrow victory against Park Center 32-31.
