MADISON – The city celebrated a significant moment in high school sports as Vivie Auth and Adel Schneider of St. Mary Catholic secured the WIAA Division 2 state championship in doubles at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium this past Saturday. The duo, who entered the tournament as the top seed, concluded their incredible season with an impressive 31-0 record. In the championship match, they took down Natalie Cooper and Lauren Loesl from Pacelli with scores of 6-0, 6-3.

They had previously won against Maria Elizabeth Garcia and Akosua Yeboah from Columbus Catholic with a score of 6-2, 6-2.

Meanwhile, the Division 1 singles title went to Clare Schaefer from Whitefish Bay, who triumphed over McKenna Thorson from Verona, winning 6-4, 6-2.

Switching gears to cross country, in De Pere, New London claimed the boys’ championship with a solid performance, finishing with 48 points and beating West De Pere by six points. Logan Boehnlein from Seymour was the standout individual with a time of 16:51.2. In the girls’ competition, Shawano took the title with 36 points, easily outlasting West De Pere’s 65 points.

The individual winner for the girls was Kate Schmoll of West De Pere, who finished with a time of 20:11.8.

In other local sporting events, the Kohler team swept the titles at their competition with winning scores of 30 points for the boys and 32 points for the girls. Matthew Wilterdink of Oostburg won the boys’ race with a time of 16:08.8, while Maggie Behler from Kohler took victory in the girls’ race at 18:41.8.

Wrightstown and Coleman were highlighted as the only local teams earning top seeds in the upcoming WIAA football playoffs, while Kimberly and North are set for a playoff rematch.
