Seton High School Girls Volleyball Team Claims Seventh State Championship Title

FAIRBORN, Ohio — Seton High School has made history by clinching the state championship in girls volleyball on Saturday night. The Saints showcased their skills by defeating Cleveland St. Joseph Academy with a score of 26-24, 25-16, and 25-15 during the Division I state final held at Wright State University’s Nutter Center.

The match highlighted the remarkable performance of several key players. Charley Moeddel, Callie Combs, and Nattie Slusher each contributed significantly with ten kills, showcasing their offensive prowess. Reagan Miller was instrumental in setting up plays, recorded 21 assists, while Kirsten Kemper added 13 assists to the team’s performance. Defensively, Grace Jones and Sakura Codling made their presence felt with 15 digs and 14 digs respectively, helping to keep the momentum on Seton’s side.

This victory marks the seventh state championship for the Seton volleyball program, which now holds a record of 26-2 for the season. Seton previously won state titles in 2005, 1996, 1988, 1986, 1985, and 1984, solidifying their legacy in Ohio high school volleyball.

This season has been extraordinary for Seton as they were ranked No. 1 in the final Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association Division I state poll. With this victory, Seton joins other successful Greater Cincinnati teams who claimed state titles this weekend, including St. Ursula in Division II and Roger Bacon in Division IV.

Seton reached the final by defeating Pickerington North in the semifinals with scores of 25-15, 25-13, and 25-20. This weekend’s state championship marked the 50th annual Ohio High School Athletic Association girls volleyball state tournament. Notably, the OHSAA has expanded the divisions in girls volleyball, moving from four divisions to seven, reflecting the growth and popularity of the sport.
