Community members come together to support domestic violence awareness at the SAFE Home Luncheon.
The Laurens County SAFE Home is set to host its rescheduled luncheon on February 25th, following a postponement due to Hurricane Helene. The event will spotlight Dating Violence Awareness Month and feature guest speaker Janine Latus, along with a catered meal by Taste of Home. Attendees can also participate in a ‘Bring One, Wear One’ initiative for those in need, and a silent auction will support the SAFE Home’s efforts. The luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m. at the Broad Street United Methodist Church Family Life Center.
Mark your calendars and dust off those fancy clothes, because the Laurens County SAFE Home is gearing up for its much-anticipated luncheon, now happening on February 25th! Originally scheduled for October, this heartwarming event had to be postponed due to the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. The hurricane left its mark on the community, and organizers felt the time was not right to ask for donations. Now, with the storm behind us, they’re ready to shine a light on an equally important issue: Dating Violence Awareness Month.
Every year, this luncheon provides a platform for survivors of domestic violence to share their powerful stories. While the tradition continues, attendees will be thrilled to know that this year’s guest speaker is none other than the remarkable Janine Latus, a nationally recognized advocate. Janine doesn’t just run her mouth; she’s on the front lines, training military personnel, first responders, and healthcare professionals on how to support those impacted by domestic violence. This year’s event promises to be as educational as it is inspiring, focusing on the realities faced by victims and the widespread nature of this serious issue.
What’s a luncheon without delicious food? Catered by Taste of Home, guests can expect a delightful spread that will complement the impactful discussions happening throughout the event. Dress code? Just bring your caring spirit along with a sprinkle of love for those who need it most.
In addition to enjoying a fantastic meal and insightful conversation, there’s another way to show your support! Attendees are encouraged to participate in an initiative dubbed ‘Bring One, Wear One’. This campaign calls for guests to bring unused undergarments, which will be distributed to those leaving dangerous situations. Every little bit helps, and while you’re enjoying your day out, think about those in need of your compassion.
Get ready to bid big! The luncheon will feature a silent auction with exciting items, ranging from gift certificates to a signed guitar by Edwin McCain. Interested participants can get in on the action with tickets starting at just $1 each or special pricing of $3 for five tickets. All the funds raised from ticket sales and auction items go directly to supporting the SAFE Home’s unrestricted funds. This financial assistance is crucial, especially when it comes to supporting survivors outside the limits of conventional grants.
The luncheon is set to kick off at 11:30 a.m. at the Broad Street United Methodist Church Family Life Center in Clinton. But that’s not all! To keep the momentum going, the SAFE Home is also hosting a 5K walk/run on March 1 at CrossFit 864 in Clinton. Double the fun, double the impact!
Sponsorship opportunities are still up for grabs for both the luncheon and the 5K event. If you’re interested in lending a hand, now is the perfect time to step forward! Reservations can be easily made by calling 864-715-5002 or sending an email to Leslie@thesafehome.org. Want more details? Just head over to their website at https://thesafehome.org/.
