Rootimentary Announces Closure this Weekend
Upscale Restaurant to Shut Doors Amid Family Concerns
Laurens City is saying farewell to Rootimentary, an upscale dining establishment, which has announced its closing this weekend on Saturday, May 25th. Rootimentary has set high culinary standards since its inception in late 2022 serving culinary delights such as filet mignon and ribeye steaks.
Personal Concerns behind the Closure
The restaurant owners, Caleb and Jess Satterfield, cited family concerns surrounding the health of their young son as the principal reason behind the closure. The Satterfields released a heartfelt statement on social media saying, “This decision will allow Chef Caleb and Jess to be home with their son more often, following a diagnosis that requires a little more of their time.”
A New Restaurant for the Venue?
The Holmes Development, the builders of the former Swofford Building which is home to Rootimentary, is planning to find a new eatery for the soon-to-be vacant space, a prospect they shared via social media. Additionally, the Holmes family along with the Satterfields have been planning a bar named “The Speakeasy”, anticipating its opening soon.
Rootimentary’s Contribution to the Local Cuisine Scene
Rootimentary had filled the culinary void left behind following the closure of Ryan’s Family Steakhouse and Buffet about a decade ago. The establishment’s specialty lay in Southern-inspired cuisine, focusing on high-quality steaks. They had been particularly appreciated for promoting local agriculture, sourcing food from local farms for their menu. The restaurant started serving from December 2022, on the square in Laurens.
Details Regarding the Closure
While the venue will continue with its renovations, it will operate again as a restaurant and bar. The Satterfields have pledged their commitment to find a suitable tenant for the venue who will continue to serve the town. They thanked everyone in a touching note saying, “You’ve made us feel loved and we are blown away by the support we have felt from so many of you. We appreciate your ongoing support and invite you to join us this weekend as we close out our time before giving another restaurant their turn.”
Pledge of Holmes Development
Emphasizing their dedication to Rootimentary, Holmes development reiterated through their social media their allegiance to the restaurant as well as the bar. They reflected on the learning curve that this chapter of business provided, further announcing that they are already looking forward to the future.
Closures in the County
The voluntary closure of Rootimentary is the fourth closure of a restaurant or bar in the Laurens County over the past few months, adding to the list of Steamer’s, Big Boy’s restaurants, and Stogie’s Cigar Bar, all having recently locked their doors in Clinton.
