Two talented PTC graduates embark on exciting internships in cybersecurity.
In Greenwood, two graduates from Piedmont Technical College are launching their careers in cybersecurity with federal internships. Juan De Leon Gonzalez will intern at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, while Kenderrius Hackett heads to Charleston for the Naval Research Enterprise Internship Program. Both students, acknowledged for their skills and dedication, are poised to contribute significantly to the field. With support from PTC’s Career Coordinator and their families, they are excited to embrace these enriching experiences.
In the vibrant city of Greenwood, two talented graduates from Piedmont Technical College (PTC) are set to jump into the world of cybersecurity this summer. With their impressive skills and determination, Juan De Leon Gonzalez and Kenderrius Hackett have secured internships with federal agencies that will kick off their careers in this fast-paced field.
As the news of these internships spreads, local weather forecasters predict partly cloudy skies for the morning—perfect for a bit of celebration! However, there’s a 30% chance that afternoon showers and thunderstorms could make an appearance. Stay alert, because a 100% chance of rain will roll in later, with forecasts hinting that rainfall totals could exceed one inch. Despite the moody weather, the high temperature is expected to reach a balmy 82°F, with a gentle breeze from the south-southwest at 10 to 20 mph, making for a warm day ahead.
Starting with Juan De Leon Gonzalez, this ambitious young man graduated from PTC in the spring of 2023 with an associate degree in applied science, focusing on computer technology and programming. But he didn’t stop there! His determination led him to earn a second associate degree in fall 2024, this time specializing in cybersecurity.
Currently working as a help desk technician at PTC, Juan will soon pack his bags and head to the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, Colorado, for his summer internship. This opportunity is more than just a chance to work; it’s a leap into the exciting realms of artificial intelligence and cybersecurity research. Engaging in coding and abstract writing will surely sharpen his skills!
Meanwhile, Kenderrius Hackett is ready for his own adventure. After graduating from PTC in summer 2024 with an associate degree in science, he’s paving his way to a bachelor’s degree at Lander University. He’ll be participating in the Naval Research Enterprise Internship Program right in Charleston, South Carolina, where he hopes to gather invaluable experience in cybersecurity.
Not one to shy away from big responsibilities, Hakett previously interned with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Columbia. With his sights firmly set on a future with a federal agency like the FBI, CIA, or Department of Defense, he is enthusiastic about serving and protecting the country. As he prepares for his summer internship, he’s currently searching for housing in Charleston, eager to soak in the new experiences waiting for him.
Both Juan and Kenderrius owe a great deal to PTC’s Career Coordinator, who played a crucial role in informing them about these fantastic internship opportunities. Undertaking the application process was no small feat for Juan; he crafted a comprehensive application, wrote an engaging essay, and faced a virtual interview that undoubtedly tested his mettle. The sense of excitement mixed with anxiety is palpable as he gears up for this new chapter, especially with it being his first time away from home for an extended period.
While Juan is excited about what’s ahead, it’s heartwarming to note the support he received from his father, who encouraged him to embrace the journey of exploration, even when it gets a bit emotional.
Both interns are showcasing a deep commitment to enhancing their skills in the cybersecurity field, and their ambitions are inspiring!
