Newberry, SC — The buzz is in the air as Newberry College gets ready for one of its biggest celebrations of the year: Homecoming Weekend. Set for November 2, this beloved tradition is packed with a mix of alumni reunions, spirited competitions, and fun-filled community festivities. Graduates and current students alike are gearing up to celebrate the strong sense of camaraderie and school pride that makes Newberry so special.
Homecoming is a time when the campus comes alive, filled with activities that everyone can enjoy. From food trucks offering tasty treats to thrilling sports events and engaging games, the weekend is designed to create a welcoming atmosphere that brings together students, alumni, and the local community of Newberry. It’s not just about celebrating sports; it’s about sharing cherished memories and making new ones.
This year, we caught up with a few students to get their thoughts on what Homecoming means to them. One of the highlights was our chat with two international students. Renee Dorval, a sophomore from Belgium, shared her excitement. Reflecting on her first Homecoming experience, she said, “In my first year, I didn’t expect Homecoming to be such a big event at the College. I was impressed with how the Homecoming King and Queen worked, and I think it was so much fun. The atmosphere at the football game was incredible; it’s an experience I had never encountered before.”
On the other hand, Sofiia Shaparenko, a freshman from Ukraine, is eager to dive into her inaugural Homecoming. “This is my first experience with Homecoming,” she mentioned. “I think it’s going to be very special for me. In Ukraine, we have something similar, but the activities are different. I can’t wait to watch the football game; I’ve heard it’s a blast!”
Another voice from our interviews was Brayden Martinez, a junior student-athlete hailing from Owatonna, Minnesota. He reminisced about his favorite Homecoming, recalling, “During Homecoming, I love the fun activities around campus with my friends. My favorite one was during my first year when the soccer team had an off weekend. My friends and I went to the football game, and the stadium was packed! The atmosphere was amazing. It’s a weekend full of enjoyment, and there’s no better way to spend it than with the people I care about most.”
Homecoming weekend is not just a lively celebration; it’s a special occasion for everyone at Newberry College. This year promises to continue the tradition of bringing joy and fun to students and alumni alike. As Newberry College welcomes back its alums, it becomes a moment to reflect on the strong bonds formed over the years. The event is a beautiful way to honor those who paved the way before us while inspiring current students to continue that legacy.
Whether you’re an alum, a current student, or a member of the Newberry community, Homecoming promises an unforgettable experience filled with school spirit, fun, and connection. So mark your calendars, grab your friends and family, and get ready to join the celebration of tradition, history, and an exciting future ahead!
