LAURENS COUNTY, S.C.- Divers and investigators have once again returned to Lake Greenwood, marking the seventh day in their search for a missing woman. SSgt. Porsha Griffin, aged 30, was tubing behind a boat on 25th May when she tragically fell into the water. In an unfortunate turn of events, she was not wearing a life jacket at the time and failed to resurface.
Resources like divers, planes, and sonar have been persistently deployed over the past week, tirelessly combing the waters for any trace of Griffin. Witnesses to the incident have been summoned back to the lakeside multiple times, as officers attempt to piece together a clear picture of the incident.
Despite another week passing, the grim determination of the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) remains unyielding as they continue in their efforts to bring some closure to Griffin’s grieving family. Griffin’s mother, Amicka, described her shock upon receiving the distressing news,
“When I got the phone call I was hysterically shocked,” she confessed. “I immediately came to the area they’re searching for her in. It’s been a lot to take in.”
Porsha Griffin is not just Amicka’s eldest daughter, she is also an esteemed member of the South Carolina National Guard and a recent nursing school graduate. Griffin is currently stationed in Spartanburg, serving the 116th Tactical Installation Networking Enhanced Company, 228th Theater Tactical Signal Brigade. Her achievements and dedication have left a significant mark on those around her.
Maj. Gen. Jeff Jones, as well as other members of the South Carolina National Guard leadership, have consistently been present at the lake to express their support for Griffin’s family in this troubled time.
“She really dedicated her life serving others and we’re so appreciative of everything she does for the state she does people. For now, that’s why we want to be here: to support her family and support law enforcement as they conduct the search,” said Maj. Gen. Jones.
Recovery operations have resumed today, with SCDNR officers, investigators, and divers conducting detailed surface searches, alongside the use of side scan sonar equipment. The efforts ceaselessly continue in the hopes of locating Griffin.
This remains a developing story. As the divers resume their exploration of Lake Greenwood, the prayers and thoughts of an entire community are with them, urging them on in their mission to find Griffin and provide her family with the closure they desperately seek.
