In Miami, the local high school sports scene is buzzing with recent developments. After an impressive 35 seasons as the boys’ bowling coach at Miami Columbus, Adam Scholer has decided to step down. Scholer has had an incredible journey with the Explorers, leading them to a state championship in 1999 and fostering an outstanding record that includes 12 undefeated seasons and 16 district championships. Not to mention, he helped produce an individual state champion with Robert MacKarvich winning in 2003. Under Scholer’s leadership, Columbus had an impressive run that saw them rank among the best teams in the state.
In his farewell statement, Scholer expressed gratitude for the years he dedicated to the sport, stating, “It has been an incredible run, and I’m grateful for the opportunity.” His efforts have significantly contributed to raising the profile of high school bowling in South Florida.
In other sports news, the Miami True North football team had a commanding performance, securing a 42-0 shutout against Miami Palmer Trinity in the Region 4-1A quarterfinals. Quarterback Zac Katz threw for 157 yards and a touchdown while also rushing for two more. The Titans advance to face Miami Edison on Thursday at Southridge Park.
The boys’ soccer team from Miami Columbus also made headlines, narrowly defeating Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas 2-1 thanks to two goals from Jorge Gonzalez-Tello. Meanwhile, in a competitive matchup, Davie NSU University School and Miami Gulliver Prep ended in a 1-1 tie with both teams continuing to show strong performances this season.
In girls’ soccer, Parkland Stoneman Douglas edged out Weston Cypress Bay with a 1-0 victory, while Miami Palmetto had a thrilling tie against Stoneman Douglas, followed by a win over TERRA.
The excitement doesn’t stop as the boys’ basketball preseason tip-off events are underway, while the girls’ regular season is already in full swing, with Palmer Trinity claiming victory in their opener.
Mark your calendars for the upcoming 2024 Junior Orange Bowl Basketball Classic on December 27, 28, and 30 at Westminster Christian School, showcasing some of the best teams across the country.
