Madison High School Golf Tournament Sees DSHA Take Early Lead Amidst Competitive Field

Madison is buzzing with excitement as the Division 1 state golf tournament kicked off at the University Ridge. Defending state champion Divine Savior Holy Angels is leading the pack after a strong performance on the first day, shooting a team total of 320. This puts them ahead of Middleton by six shots, who sits in second place with a score of 326. Other teams like Kaukauna and Bay Port are trailing behind, with scores of 344 and 359 respectively.

Individually, McKenna Nelson from Beaver Dam/Wayland Academy wowed everyone by shooting a remarkable 7-under-par 65. She leads the individual standings by three strokes over Payton Haugen of Brookfield East, who finished with a score of 68. Notably, they are the only two players to shoot under par on the first day.

In the Division 2 tournament, Spooner tops the leaderboard with a team total of 362, followed by Edgewood at 376. Individual standout Addison Kofal of Saint Croix Central shot a solid 75, leading the division individual standings by a narrow margin over Belle Kongshaug from Colfax/Elk Mound.

Switching gears to volleyball, Xavier faced tough competition, finishing their tournament with a 2-2 record. They got wins over Oak Creek and Appleton North but fell short against Arrowhead and Pewaukee. Madison Daley was a key player for Xavier, notching 27 kills along with several digs and aces.

Luxemburg-Casco struggled with a 1-3 record, managing a win against Oak Creek but losing to others in the tournament. However, individual performances like that of Alayna Deprez highlighted their game, showcasing her skills with 71 assists and 33 digs.

Meanwhile, at the Oconto Falls tournament, the Panthers shined with a 4-1 record, triumphing in pool play before facing the tournament champions, Freedom, in the gold bracket. Izzy Otto stood out with impressive stats, recording 72 assists along with significant contributions in kills and digs from her teammates.

The competitive spirit in Madison’s high school sports scene is certainly alive and well, with teams and athletes showcasing their skills and determination.
