Community theater Little Mermaid performance
Clinton, South Carolina – This Friday night, an imaginary journey under the sea begins at the Clinton High School Auditorium, courtesy of the much-anticipated performance by the Laurens County Community Theater production. They are bringing to life Disney’s iconic musical, The Little Mermaid.
This is LCCT’s second large-scale play for the current theater season, firmly establishing their commitment to rekindling community theater in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. The first show under their banner – a production of Willy Wonka Jr. – unfolded in the fall of 2022. This was followed by mesmerizing performance of The Wizard of Oz in October, 2023.
The CHS auditorium is now the LCCT’s new performing ground. The non-profit organization’s executive director, Joe Timmons, who served previously as the high school’s language arts and theater teacher, was instrumental in this leg-up for the LCCT. Unfortunately, Timmons passed away following a brief illness in December. The loss has been significant for the LCCT, but the team is moving forward, dedicating the current production to their beloved director.
“It took us awhile to get started back after Covid, and Joe was the spark we needed to get it going back again,” said LCCT Board Member Kay Addison.
The Little Mermaid brings together a diverse group of adults, teens, and children in a cohesive cast, infusing life into characters inspired by both Hans Christian Andersen’s story and the Disney musical film. The talented Dani Trent is playing Ariel, Boyad “Holly” Hollingshead embodies Prince Eric, and Tricia Nolan plays the sinister Ursula. The charming Ariel’s sidekicks, Flounder and Scuttle, are brought to life by Ben Thompson and Harper Nelson, respectively, while Michael Post plays King Triton. Last but not least, Mary Babb Davis lends her stage charisma to the role of Sebastian, the right-hand crab to King Triton.
The show is set to commence at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday night, January 26 and 27, followed by a Sunday matinee at 3 p.m. It will continue to play the following week with performances at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, February 1 and 2, ending with the final show at 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 3. Tickets are available at the door, online at LCCT.net, or by calling 864-833-5228.
This tale of love, sacrifice, and triumph promises to enchant both children and adults alike, making it a must-see event this theater season.
