Laurens County Touchdown Club Celebrates Will Thompson as Player of the Week

Exciting Times in Laurens: Touchdown Club Honors Local Star

In the vibrant city of Laurens, sports fans have a lot to cheer about as the Laurens County Touchdown Club recently announced their Player of the Week! This time, the spotlight shines on senior quarterback Will Thompson from Laurens District 55 High School for his impressive performance during the high school football game on November 1.

A Stellar Performance

During the game against Emerald, Thompson put his skills on full display, completing 9 out of 15 passes for a total of 176 yards and scoring one touchdown. But that’s not all—he also rushed for a touchdown, truly showcasing his versatility and determination on the field. It’s no wonder coach Greg Porter couldn’t help but sing his praises, stating, “Will has demonstrated leadership and toughness for the Raiders this season.” Coach Porter emphasized that despite the challenges, Thompson continues to give his all day in and day out, which is essential in building a strong foundation for the team moving forward.

A Celebration to Remember

The Laurens County Touchdown Club is planning to honor Thompson at their upcoming meeting scheduled for November 21. The meeting will take place at The Ridge in Laurens starting at noon, which is a perfect opportunity for fans to celebrate the accomplishments of their local athletes. This meeting is particularly special as it coincides with the annual South Carolina vs. Clemson clash, and some exciting guest speakers will be there too! Chet Tucker, the chief sideline reporter for USC, along with Don Munson, the voice of the Clemson Tigers, will be sharing their insights. It’s set to be an engaging session filled with sports talk and community spirit.

Player of the Week: A Tradition of Excellence

This week’s recognition is part of the ongoing Farm Bureau Insurance “Player of the Week” awards, which honors athletes for their outstanding performances over three weeks during the high school football season. This also means that players from November 8 and November 15 will be in the running for the same recognition. It’s a lovely reminder of how community support plays a crucial role in encouraging young athletes to shine.

Community Engagement

The Touchdown Club is a fantastic venue for fans to connect over their love of high school football. Meetings occur every other Thursday during the football season at The Ridge, located at 301 Exchange Road. The good news is the community is invited! Tickets can be purchased at the door for a modest price of $15. The food line opens at 11:45 am, so attendees can enjoy a delicious meal before getting into the football festivities. Just keep in mind that there will be a delightful buzz in the air as fans gather to share stories and celebrate their sports heroes.

What’s Next for the Raiders?

As the season progresses and the Raiders prepare for their remaining games, all eyes will be on Will Thompson and his teammates. Fans remain hopeful that Thompson’s hard work, teamwork, and leadership will guide the Raiders through the challenges ahead.

Weather for the Big Day

While the excitement builds for the upcoming meeting and the recognition of Thompson, be sure to keep an eye on the weather. A little light rain is expected early on November 21, transitioning into cloudy skies with showers in the afternoon. The high for the day is around 71 degrees with light and variable winds, so it might be a good idea to grab an umbrella just in case! Overnight might bring more rain along with some patchy fog, making the weather a cozy backdrop for the event.

So, mark your calendars and get ready to cheer on Will Thompson and the Laurens District 55 Raiders. It’s shaping up to be an unforgettable season!
