Laurens County Teen Faces Multiple Charges in Connection with Two Shootings

LAURENS COUNTY, S.C. – In a developing case that has alarmed the local community, an 18-year-old man is now facing five counts of attempted murder after being linked to a second shooting incident.

Jay Taylor, 18, was initially charged with attempted murder stemming from an event on August 27th. According to investigators, Taylor allegedly shot a victim in the back at a Citgo gas station situated on Highway 72 in Cross Hill. During his bond hearing, Taylor expressed regret, stating he “didn’t want it to go down like that.”

Second Shooting Incident

While delving deeper into Taylor’s past, the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office identified him as a suspect in another shooting that occurred on August 26th. This incident took place on West Calhoun Street in Joanna, where shots were reportedly fired into a home with four occupants. Fortunately, no one was injured.

“The actions exhibited by this individual is of a thug who had the dangerous potential to murder someone with his reckless actions,” said Laurens County Sheriff Don Reynolds. “It is my hope that the court system will give him plenty of time to think about his actions. Thank you to the deputies and investigators who worked quickly and diligently on both cases.”

Following these revelations, Taylor now faces an expanded list of charges, including:

  • Attempted murder x5
  • Breach of Peace, Aggravated x2

Investigators have praised the rapid response and thorough efforts of their colleagues, which have been crucial in promptly addressing and solving these cases.

Sheriff Reynolds has emphasized the importance of a strong and coordinated effort in pursuing justice for the crimes committed, assuring the community that such reckless and dangerous behavior will not be tolerated.
