First up is Sarah Duvall, who recently earned her Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education from Presbyterian College in December 2024. Sarah’s journey has been inspiring, as she not only completed her teaching licensure exams but also gained an Elementary Education Add-on Endorsement. Currently, she is making a positive impact as a teacher and caregiver at Hickory Tickory Tots Learning Center.
Her dedication to learning was evident during her practicum at Hickory Tavern School, where she had the pleasure of working under the guidance of first-grade teacher Katherine Thomas. Having attended Hickory Tavern School from kindergarten to eighth grade herself, Sarah is more than ready to nurture the next generation.
Emily Fleming: A Stellar Academic
Next, we have Emily Fleming, a bright star who graduated Summa Cum Laude from Lander University. With an outstanding academic record and a spot on the President’s List from 2022 to 2024, Emily is well-prepared for her teaching career. She currently works as the Office Manager at Spike’s After School, and brings with her a wealth of practical experience, boasting over 400 hours in the classroom!
During the Fall 2024 semester, Emily served as a student teacher at Gray Court-Owings School under the watchful eye of fifth-grade teacher Tammy Childress.
Michelle Moon: Tech-Savvy Educator
Then we have Michelle Moon, another recent graduate from Lander University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. Not only did she complete her degree in December 2024, but she is also certified in various environmental education programs. With an impressive 750 hours of classroom experience, Michelle has become well-versed in integrating technology into education, a skill that will undoubtedly enhance her teaching methods.
She honed her skills at Waterloo Elementary School, under the tutelage of fourth-grade teacher Lisa Nelson, and also completed her student teaching at Gray Court-Owings.

Now, let’s shine a light on Amanda Smith, who is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Special Education at Grand Canyon University. Set to graduate in May 2025, Amanda has already made headway by passing her Praxis Teaching Licensure examinations. Her journey as a paraprofessional began in August 2024, where she has been actively supporting special education classes.
Ashley Walker: Committed to Early Childhood Education
Last but certainly not least is Ashley Walker, who graduated from Lander University in December 2024 with a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education. Like her peers, Ashley has successfully passed the Teaching Praxis examinations and completed her student teaching at Waterloo Elementary School with second-grade teacher Angela Abercrombie.
