Bond Denied for Suspect in Laurens County Courthouse Shooting That Left One Dead

Bond Denied for Suspect in Deadly Laurens Co. Courthouse Shooting

LAURENS COUNTY, S.C. – A somber day took a turn towards resolution as the suspect involved in the tragic shooting outside the Laurens County Family Courthouse faced a judge on Tuesday. The judge ruled to deny bond for 32-year-old Stephen White, who allegedly shot and killed 34-year-old Erin Thomas.

The Incident

Deputies reported that the unfortunate event unfolded around 3:15 p.m. on Monday. As court sessions wrapped up, gunshots rang out, leaving courthouse visitors in shock. Thomas had attended a child custody and domestic relations hearing earlier in the day, with White named as a defendant in the case.

Immediate Response

Quick on their feet, law enforcement officers arrived at the scene immediately and apprehended White without much resistance. Meanwhile, Thomas was quickly airlifted to a local hospital. Despite the best efforts of medical staff, Thomas succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital.

The Courtroom

Inside the courtroom, tension was palpable. Family members of Thomas filled the room, their grief visible and heart-wrenching. The Laurens County victims’ advocate spoke passionately, emphasizing the severity of the crime: “This really was a heinous crime and a blatant disregard for human life.”

The Judge’s Ruling

After hearing from both sides, the judge ruled to deny bond for Stephen White. White faces a murder charge in addition to a weapons charge. He is scheduled to appear in general sessions court on October 25. Attorneys representing both White and Thomas have yet to respond to requests for a statement on the matter.

Community Impact

This incident has shaken the Laurens County community, leaving many to question court security measures and the broader implications of domestic disputes escalating to such tragic ends. As the legal process moves forward, the community waits with bated breath for justice to be duly served.

The thoughts and prayers of the entire community are with Thomas’ family as they navigate this difficult time.

Stay tuned for further updates as the case progresses.
