In a harrowing incident that shocked the city, an 11-year-old boy, A’Rhyan Anderson was viciously attacked by a pack of wild dogs. His painful ordeal has now turned into a rallying cause for community members who have joined hands to help him and others in need. On the unfortunate morning of February 14th, young A’Rhyan was heading to his bus stop when he spotted a pack of dogs rushing towards him. Try as he might, he couldn’t evade the menacing pack. The relentless dogs attacked him, leaving him with over 60 puncture wounds, including a severe injury to his left hamstring.

A neighbor, seeing the terrifying scene, bravely intervened, fought off the dogs, and called 911. A’Rhyan was initially rushed to a local hospital and then airlifted to a Greenville Memorial Hospital, where he underwent immediate surgery. The boy’s ordeal isn’t over yet, as he will have to undergo more surgery and extensive physical therapy. In addition, psychological support will become necessary to help him overcome this traumatic experience.

The story stirred up the entire community. His mother Amy Lowe, a single mother of five, appealed to the community for support to meet the growing medical expenses. A GoFundMe page was set up, which surpassed its goal of $10,000, raising over $64,000 so far. With supporting messages pouring in from all over the world, the community stood together for A’Rhyan and his family.

Insurance, Commendations, and Measures for Safety

In an editorial viewpoint, it was suggested that the City of Clinton and School District 56 negotiate with Prisma Health, the managing entity of both involved hospitals, for covering all medical bills concerning A’Rhyan’s recovery.
