Residents are hopeful about future engagement under his leadership.

Exciting Times in Ware Shoals: Kent Boles Takes the Lead!

Ware Shoals welcomed a new member to its council after a recent special election brought Kent Boles into the spotlight. Boles, who emerged victorious, will take over the at-large council seat left vacant after the resignation of George Leagans late last year. And while the turnout wasn’t the highest, the enthusiasm for this election surely shone through.

A Closer Look at the Election

This special election saw four candidates vying for attention: Kent Boles, Ray Cox, Katelyn Grizzle, and Joy Hansen. It was a lively race, and each of these hopefuls put their best foot forward to connect with the community. However, when the votes were tallied, it was clear that Boles had captured the hearts (and votes!) of Ware Shoals residents.

Across both Greenwood and Abbeville counties, Boles bagged a total of 58 votes, which positioned him as the clear winner. In the numbers game, every vote counted, and it seems like the folks of Ware Shoals made their choices known!

Breaking Down the Numbers in Greenwood County

Over in Greenwood County, the voter engagement was a mixed bag, with a total of just 74 votes cast out of 887 registered voters. This resulted in a turnout of 8.34%, a figure that reflects a need for more community involvement perhaps? Out of those votes, Kent Boles received a solid 38 votes, which breaks down to about 51.35% of the total votes in that county. Joy Hansen followed with 18 votes (24.32%), Katelyn Grizzle garnered 17 votes (22.97%), while Ray Cox barely made a mark with just one vote (1.35%). Interestingly, there were no write-in votes at all in this county.

On Election Day, the excitement buzzed as three out of five precincts reported. Voters really showed up at the polls, with 70 making their voices heard in-person and an additional four taking advantage of early voting. Even amid the lower turnout figures, the community was clearly engaged!

Abbeville County’s Vote Count

38 votes cast. Here, Kent Boles once again led the charge with 20 votes (52.63%). Joy Hansen received 8 votes (21.05%), Katelyn Grizzle collected 7 votes (18.42%), and Ray Cox saw just 3 votes (7.89%). Similar to Greenwood, there were no write-in votes in Abbeville County either, showcasing a clear preference among voters.

Despite facing a somewhat modest turnout of 13.97% from a pool of 272 registered voters, the excitement remained palpable. Only one out of three precincts reported on Election Day, yet the results still told a compelling story.

What’s Next for Ware Shoals?

The newly elected member, Kent Boles, now steps into his role with support from both counties, marking a new chapter for the Ware Shoals council. Though the turnout rates might not have reached record-high numbers, it’s evident that those who did cast their votes were deeply invested in the community and its future.

As Ware Shoals progresses, there’s a hopeful sense of enthusiasm among residents for what’s to come. With Boles leading the charge, the road ahead may just hold promising opportunities for community engagement and growth. The journey with their new council member begins now!
