Delightful Festivities in Laurens This Holiday Season
The charming city of Laurens is buzzing with holiday cheer! On Tuesday, local council members and staff gathered for their yearly holiday meal, which served as a lovely way to wrap up the year – along with an early final council meeting. Although the agenda was light with no new business to discuss, Mayor Nathan Senn took the opportunity to share some exciting updates regarding the recent holiday happenings that have lit up the town this season.
A Festive Celebration to Remember
On December 6, Laurens hosted its highly anticipated tree lighting event that included a delightful lineup of activities for families and friends. Mayor Senn mentioned how the community came together to celebrate the season, noting that the event was more than just a simple tree lighting.
“This year, we really worked hard to take our Christmas celebration to a new level. We’re capitalizing on the special things the City of Laurens has to offer,” Senn explained to the council. With festivities including a Christmas Market, live music, and picturesque carriage rides, it felt truly magical. To top it all off, for the first time ever, Santa’s Village was set up, making the evening even more enchanting for the children and families that attended.
A Record-Breaking Turnout
What really stood out this year was the astounding turnout! Approximately 1,500 people attended the event, which is three times more than the average number of attendees in past years. Talk about a success! Mayor Senn shared heartwarming feedback from both visitors and local businesses, reading out comments that captured the essence of the evening.
“Looks like something out of a Hallmark card. Love our little town,” and “Americana at its finest,” were just a couple of the glowing remarks. It’s clear that the people truly appreciated the efforts put into making the holiday festivities so special.
Community Spirit in Action
Vendors who participated in the Christmas Market for the first time couldn’t hold back their excitement, describing the event as a “magical evening.” They relayed to the city staff how thrilled they were to be part of such a lively and cheerful experience. Mayor Senn emphasized the hard work of the staff in pulling off such a sizeable gathering and underscored the importance of community engagement.
“These comments capture what we are trying to accomplish,” Senn noted proudly. “It’s not just about marketing but connecting as a community. I have to give our staff credit for pulling it off. It is who we are and helps build community.”
The Heart of Laurens
Enhancing a sense of community pride and connection is a significant goal for Laurens. As Mayor Senn stated, “With a stronger and more tight-knit community, our streets are safer. People take pride in our town; they’re less likely to litter, and all of those things add up.” Change starts from these small moments of togetherness, and Laurens is one step ahead in cultivating that goodwill.
Looking Ahead
As the city gears up for the New Year, there’s no doubt that the holiday spirit experienced during this year’s events will carry over into the coming months. The joy of connection and community celebration is alive and well in Laurens, paving the way for a promising year ahead.
So, whether you’re a long-time resident or just passing through, take a moment to stop, enjoy, and appreciate all that Laurens has to offer – especially during this festive season!
