High School Volleyball and Tennis Highlights: October 1, 2024

Sports Roundup: Lake Stevens and Edmonds-Woodway Shine

Lake Stevens, WA – In a thrilling volleyball match on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, the Lake Stevens volleyball team triumphed over Lynnwood with a score of 3-1. After winning the first two sets 25-22 and 25-8, Lake Stevens faced a scare in the third when Lynnwood edged them out 29-27. However, Lake Stevens regrouped and clinched the match with a solid 25-20 victory in the fourth set.

Top performances for Lake Stevens came from Laura Eichert, who delivered a standout game with 31 kills and 15 digs, adding an ace for good measure. Teammate Jayci Scrivens also had an impressive outing, contributing 14 kills and 11 digs along with 2 aces. From Lynnwood, Sammy Holmer led the charge with 14 kills, while Ady Morgan provided 24 assists. With the win, Lake Stevens improved to a 4-2 record, while Lynnwood fell to 3-3.

Looking ahead, Lynnwood is set to face Shorewood on Thursday, October 3, at 7:15 p.m. at Lynnwood High School.

In another notable match, Edmonds-Woodway continued their strong season, defeating Mountlake Terrace 3-1 with set scores of 25-18, 25-21, 24-26, and 25-16. Sawyer Hiatt stood out for Edmonds-Woodway, providing 18 kills in the match. Edmonds-Woodway now boasts a jaw-dropping 6-0 overall record.

As for Mountlake Terrace, they slipped to a 2-4 record. They will look to bounce back against Cascade on Wednesday, October 2, at 7 p.m.

Meanwhile, Archbishop Murphy rolled past Meadowdale, winning 3-0. Laura Esping made significant contributions with 6 kills and 13 assists, helping Archbishop Murphy secure a solid record of 6-1 this season.

In tennis news, Edmonds-Woodway defeated Lynnwood 5-2 in a competitive match. Standouts included Steven Anderson, who achieved a commanding 6-0, 6-0 victory. With a record of 9-1, Edmonds-Woodway is in great shape as they prepare for their next match against Meadowdale on Thursday.

Mesaowdale’s tennis team is also gearing up for their next match against Shorewood on Wednesday, October 2, at 3:30 p.m. As the season progresses, all eyes will be on these teams as they continue to push for success on the courts and the volleyball courts in the coming weeks.
