High School Volleyball Regional Championships Heat Up in Bel Air

On Wednesday, November 6th, exciting high school volleyball matches took place across the region, with several teams fighting for their spots in the next rounds of the playoffs.

In a thrilling sweep, the C. Milton Wright Mustangs defeated the Fallston Cougars with a score of 3-0 in the Class 2A East Region I final. The Mustangs showcased an impressive performance, winning the sets 25-21, 25-13, and 25-11. Leading the charge for CMW was Maddie Duffalo with an outstanding 13 kills. Supporting her, Ana Mioduski contributed seven kills and four aces while Olivia Kobb added six kills and five aces. The team’s success was further bolstered by Jenna Ritz who delivered 28 assists, along with some much-needed digs from Addyson Bradley.

Another notable match featured Carver A&T taking on Western Tech, where the Wildcats emerged victorious with a score of 3-1 in the 1A North Region I final (25-19, 25-22, 12-25, 25-14).

The Howard Lions also celebrated success, beating the River Hill Hawks with a score of 3-1 (25-10, 25-12, 21-25, 25-20). The Lions were powered by Kaleigh Williams, who had nine kills and five blocks. She was joined by Mariska Ordonez and McKenna Brown who each recorded eight kills, helping secure the win.

Meanwhile, the Reservoir Gators advanced to the 4A state quarterfinals by defeating Montgomery-Blair with a solid 3-0 victory (25-18, 25-18, 25-19). Nina Amani-Dove and Tiana Copp led the attack with 10 kills each, while Riley Ko and Chloe Chau contributed on defense with impressive dig counts.

Patterson Mill also celebrated after winning the 1A East Region I championship against Bohemia Manor, completing the match with a score of 3-0 (25-11, 25-19, 25-14). Harlon Jones shined with 14 kills, supported by teammates Rylie Madsen and Samiyah Hubbard.

Lastly, Broadneck beat Leonardtown decisively with a score of 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-15), with noteworthy performances led by Sydney Lawrence, Julia Rubino, and Amanda Protzman.

As the playoffs continue, teams are gearing up for tougher matches ahead, aiming for a shot at the championship. Fans are excitedly looking forward to the upcoming games!
