In Wilton yesterday, the high school field hockey team delivered a stunning performance against Glastonbury, winning decisively with a score of 7-1. Leading the charge for Wilton was Sabrina Sharfuddin, who scored two goals and assisted on two more, showcasing her offensive prowess. Other key contributors included Clara Fielden, Mary Sylvester, Bridget Grosso, Casey O’Connor, and Liza Fogelson, each contributing to the scoreline. The Glastonbury goal came from Zoe White, with Deirdre McKiernan providing an assist.
Defensively, Wilton’s Mary Schwartz and Ava Salvino combined for a total of five saves. On the other hand, Glastonbury’s Maddie O’Connell had a busy afternoon, making 21 saves. With this victory, both teams now sit at an impressive record of 9-1.
Meanwhile, Branford triumphed over New Canaan with a score of 2-1 in an overtime thriller. Aliza Giordano scored both goals for Branford, including the game-winner with just 6:29 left in overtime. New Canaan’s lone goal came from Cara Passios, while Branford’s goalie, Lilly Panuccio made four saves and Olivia Barbera of New Canaan recorded eight saves.
In another matchup, Hamden shut out Sheehan with a definitive score of 5-0. Ava Martin got on the scoresheet early with an assist from Jozie Becker, followed by multiple goals from Giada Broccoli, who scored a hat trick. The Hamden defense was strong, with goalkeeper Eramo keeping a clean sheet.
Seymour also found success, dominating Torrington with a score of 3-0. Key players for Seymour included Joey Carrafiello, who scored twice, and Nathan Ferriera with one goal. In goal, Alex Porczynski and Nick Kyrytschenko performed well, combining for 11 saves.
On the boys’ side, Trumbull emerged victorious against Staples with a slim margin of 1-0, thanks to a late goal from Mateus Almeida. Hopkins had a spectacular match, crushing Canterbury 8-0, with Munib Kassem and Tommy Pont Strong each netting two goals.
