High School Sports Recap: Competitive Matches Across the Board

This week in Dennis-Yarmouth, the field hockey team faced Monomoy in a rematch of their earlier tie. In contrast to their recent 1-1 tie, the Sharks came out on top with a solid 3-0 victory. Mia Zimmerman, Samantha Clark, and Sophie Larivee each found the back of the net for Monomoy, while Emily Layton and Sam Clarke contributed with assists. Goalkeeper Maddy Swett secured the shutout by only allowing three shots from Dennis-Yarmouth.

Meanwhile, in other high school sports action, Notre Dame overcame Barnstable with a convincing 4-1 score. The Red Hawks continue to struggle, now sitting at 1-10-2. Avery Croteau and Gianna Devoe were noted for their solid defending as Samantha Marczely scored the lone goal for Barnstable, assisted by Shelby Locascio.

Nauset faced off against Falmouth, ending with a 4-0 victory for the Warriors. The Clippers fell to 5-9-0 as they missed several opportunities to score.

The Falconitis continued as Mashpee lost to Hull with a score of 6-1. Izzy Almeida managed to net the Falcons’ only goal, which was assisted by Ella Varetimos. Over in Bourne, the Canalmen ended in a 0-0 tie against West Bridgewater, with Nathan Reynolds making seven saves to preserve the shutout.

In volleyball, Dennis-Yarmouth turned the tables against Falmouth, winning 3-1. Key performances came from Mariah Eaton with 17 kills and Vivian Castano with 29 assists.

As for the golf division, Barnstable finished fifth in the Division 1 South Sectionals but fell just short of advancing to the state championships. Nauset’s team had an impressive showing, finishing fourth and qualifying for the Division 2 state championship event.

In cross-country, Falmouth came out on top with a score of 19-44 over Dennis-Yarmouth, with Silas Gartner leading the pack. The Dolphins’ Jacob Viera secured second place with a personal-best time of 18:55.

The week’s sports activities showed a mix of challenges and triumphs for teams in the area, with competition heating up as the season progresses.
