Arlington, VA – This upcoming week, local high schools in Arlington are gearing up for an exciting lineup of sports events as the winter season continues to progress. From basketball games to a major wrestling tournament, athletes will be competing across various venues, showcasing their skills from December 13 through December 21.

The boys’ basketball teams will see plenty of action this week, kicking off with a game between Jefferson and Yorktown on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Other notable matchups include Oakton visiting Washington-Liberty at the same time. The girls’ basketball teams will also be on display, with Yorktown heading to Jefferson and Wakefield competing against South County>, both scheduled for Friday evening.

Swimming and diving enthusiasts can catch the action as well, with Langley taking on Wakefield on Friday at 6:30 p.m., followed by Washington-Liberty facing Herndon later that night. The schedules continue into the weekend with events scattered throughout the community.

On Saturday, wrestling events will shine with a quad meet hosted by Wakefield and several teams competing in the Sherando Tournament. The gymnasts will also be in competition, with Wakefield visiting McLean on the same day for a 5:30 p.m. start.

Boys and girls ice hockey matches will heat things up in the rink, with notable games such as Bishop O’Connell playing against Landon on Saturday and Bishop O’Connell facing Stone Ridge later that evening. Additionally, fans of track and field should save the date for the Battlefield Invitational taking place on Saturday morning.

This week is filled with opportunities for students to represent their schools, with the combination of competition and school spirit sure to make for an exciting atmosphere. Community members are encouraged to come out and support their local teams as they embark on what promises to be a thrilling week of winter sports.
