Friday’s High School Sports Roundup

This past Friday, a series of exciting high school sports events took place across Connecticut, showcasing some impressive performances from local teams.

Xavier vs. Stamford

In a decisive soccer match, Xavier defeated Stamford 3-0. The goals for Xavier came from Dylan Rivera-Bonet, Diego Canellas, and Hayden Modica, who had assists from teammates Jordan Harley, Evan Stone, and Seamus McCormack. Xavier’s goalie, Randy Heidorn, had one save, while Stamford’s Marc Zampino made six saves throughout the game.

Newington vs. Platt Tech

Newington claimed a commanding 4-0 victory over Platt Tech. Anthony Napoletano scored two goals, contributing to the team’s dominant performance along with goals from Bernardo Garcia and CJ Rosado. Assists came from CJ Rosado and Jason Somera. Newington’s defense was solid with Gavin Williams and Stephano Logrono combining for four saves, while Platt Tech’s Emilio Contreras managed eleven saves.

Stonington vs. Seymour

In another thrilling soccer match, Stonington narrowly beat Seymour with a score of 4-3. Salvatore Alessio stood out with three goals, supported by Ethan Cabrera. Seymour’s Nate Ferreira scored two goals from penalty kicks, while Joey Carrafiello added another. In goal, Alex Porczynski for Seymour had eight saves, while Nick Canella for Stonington made five saves.

Trumbull vs. Hamden

In volleyball action, Trumbull dominated Hamden with a straight-set win: 25-14, 25-14, 25-16. Leading Trumbull was Paulina Bykowski with nine kills. Other notable performances included Bailey Wright with 21 assists and Ali Link who contributed 11 digs.

NFA vs. Westhill

In another powerful volleyball match, NFA outlasted Westhill with a score of 3-1. Savannah Guernsey led with 22 assists, alongside Evelina Klyukin who recorded eight kills and ten digs. The match set the stage for an exciting season ahead.

Overall, it was a day filled with competitive spirit and remarkable athleticism across various high school sports. Coaches and teams continue to work hard as the season progresses, and fans are eager to see what’s next!
