The high school sports scene in Cincinnati was buzzing with excitement this past week as several teams competed in important matches and tournaments.
In the OHSAA Division II state tournament, the competition was fierce. The top-performing teams included:
On the individual side, two athletes emerged as the leading contenders. Finley Bartlett from Wyoming and Matthew Kreusch from Alter both posted impressive scores of 140. Following them were TJ Kreusch also from Alter with a score of 148, and a tie for fourth with both Gavin Gress from River View and Brock Montgomery from Upper Sandusky scoring 150.
Meanwhile, the girls’ tournament had its own share of exciting results. The top team was Columbus Academy with a total of 668 points, closely followed by Madeira at 695. Individual standout Eva Lim from Columbus Academy posted the best score among girls with 143, while Sophia Fink from CHCA came in second with 147.
Shifting to soccer, the KHSAA 8th Region quarterfinals provided thrilling matches. Woodford County dominated Grant County with a solid 6-0 victory. In a nail-biter, Collins edged out Simon Kenton in penalty kicks after a 2-1 tie.
In other matches, Walton-Verona defeated Spencer County 2-1, while Simon Kenton bounced back with a 7-1 victory against Collins. Notre Dame showcased a stellar performance against St. Henry, securing a shutout win of 6-0, with multiple players contributing goals.
In the KHSAA 10th Region quarterfinals, Campbell County also made waves by shutting out Montgomery County with a score of 4-0. Bishop Brossart had a remarkable outing, demolishing Pendleton County with a commanding score of 9-0.
