High School Sports Roundup: Top Performers Shine

In Shaker, players took center stage as they showcased remarkable talents in various sports last week. The highlight of the football scene came from Jake Smith, a senior who impressed fans with his performance against Guilderland. Smith scored two touchdowns in the second quarter, including an exciting 51-yard punt return, and rushed for 72 yards on just five carries. His efforts helped the Blue Bison secure a convincing 34-6 victory.

Another standout on the gridiron was Dylan Maychack from Columbia, who surged in the third quarter with a stunning 99-yard touchdown run, leading his team to a 28-12 win over La Salle. Meanwhile, Jordan Baker from Glens Falls ran impressively for 198 yards and three touchdowns, contributing to a resounding 40-7 success against Hoosick Falls/Tamarac.

In soccer, Owen Bradt became the talk of the town, scoring two goals and contributing an assist in Shaker’s 4-0 win over Middletown. This performance pushed him to become the program’s all-time leading scorer. The week was also fruitful for Godfred Basigi of Mohonasen, who scored twice in a 2-1 victory over Albany Academy.

On the girls’ soccer front, Marie Bogue stood out with three goals, leading Guilderland to a solid 6-0 win against Colonie. Not far behind her in headlines was Ella Grupe of Greenville, who recorded three goals in a dominant 12-0 victory over Lansingburgh, marking a significant milestone of 101 career goals.

Volleyball also saw some exciting performances. Ava Schewe and Reagan Ennist kept fans on the edge of their seats with their spikes and assists. Ennist helped her team capture the tournament title in the Cider Challenge, adding to her impressive stats with 17 kills in a match against Bethlehem.

With such an eventful week, the excitement continues as more games are lined up, including key football showdowns and thrilling matchups in soccer and volleyball. Keep an eye on these fabulous athletes as they aim to make their mark and bring in more victories for their teams!
