On Friday, local high school sports teams showcased their skills with several exciting matchups across the region. In Westport, the Staples High School boys’ soccer team dominated Danbury, scoring 11 goals while allowing just 1 in return. This impressive victory solidifies Staples’ strong season performance.
Meanwhile, in New Haven, the Hopkins School faced off against Hamden Hall, registering a solid 6-0 win. The standout players included Munib Kassem and Eric Roberts, each netting two goals. The win improved Hopkins’ record to 5-1.
Northwest Catholic secured a decisive 1-0 victory against Avon with Samantha Casper scoring the only goal. Northwest Catholic’s goalkeeper, Abby Casper, helped maintain the lead with two saves.
The Seymour boys’ soccer team also had a great outing, winning 3-0 against Oxford thanks to two goals from Joey Carrafiello.
In girls’ soccer, the Mercy High School team proved their prowess with a 4-2 victory over Cheshire. Molly Benson scored twice, leading her team to stay undefeated with a record of 13-0-1.
In volleyball action, Hamden battled Killingly, coming out on top with a score of 3-1. Bella Green was particularly effective with nine kills and eight digs, while Mady Rollinson assisted the team with an impressive 36 assists.
