High School Basketball Weekend Recap – November 29, 2024

In a busy weekend of high school basketball across the region, several teams showcased impressive performances during various tournaments. The action kicked off with strong showings at the Armstrong and Ellwood City tournaments on Friday evening.

At the Armstrong tournament, Deer Lakes dominated River Valley with a solid 61-27 victory, while Highlands edged out Armstrong in a close game, finishing 55-49. The Ellwood City tournament also featured some exciting matchups, where Blackhawk crushed Rochester, 67-34, and Union narrowly defeated Ellwood City, 64-58.

At the Geneva College/Lincoln Park tournament, Ambridge pulled off a tight win against Beaver Falls, claiming a 45-40 victory. The day also saw Imani Christian put on a strong performance, defeating Moon 74-54.

Meanwhile, in the Latrobe tournament, Latrobe easily defeated Mt. Pleasant, winning by a score of 66-25. Richland and Windber battled fiercely, with Richland winning 51-48.

The girls’ games also delivered exciting competition, highlighted by Avella‘s 45-32 victory over Mapletown in their tournament. McGuffey triumphed similarly, defeating Burgettstown 52-34, while Forest Hills showcased a strong defense, allowing only 18 points in their 50-18 win against Juniata Valley.

Looking ahead to Saturday’s schedule, fans can expect more thrilling matchups including River Valley taking on Highlands at 2:30 p.m. in the Armstrong tournament and Blackhawk facing Union at 1:30 p.m. in the Ellwood City tournament.
