High School Sports Recap: Top Performers Shine in Sectionals

This past week in High School sports was filled with exciting moments as several athletes showcased their talents during sectional competitions. Here’s a look at some standout performances.

Football Highlights

In football action, Archie Jones of CBA made a significant impact, rushing for two touchdowns and throwing for another, leading his team to a victory over Saratoga Springs in the Class AA sectionals. Not far behind, Marcus Snipes from Shaker demonstrated his skills by completing 7-of-12 passes for 161 yards and a touchdown while also rushing for another in a thrilling 28-21 semifinal win against Shenendehowa.

Ihsann Alozie of Shenendehowa was also impressive, rushing for 147 yards and scoring two touchdowns along with a 40-yard interception return for a touchdown, although his efforts fell short against Shaker.

More Stellar Performances

The Colonie Wolf Pack saw Steven Thomas throw for 294 yards and four touchdowns, rallying his team from a 16-0 deficit to edge Bethlehem 33-29. Meanwhile, it was a big night for Brady Wyland, who had seven receptions for 89 yards and three touchdowns in the same game.

Girls Soccer Triumphs

In girls’ soccer, Kofi Sarfoh from Shaker made waves as he netted crucial goals, helping secure a 3-1 Section II Class AAA title win and a semifinal spot. On the other hand, Keating Pauze from Bethlehem shone brightly, scoring a pivotal goal to lead his team to a 2-0 victory over Nottingham.

Volleyball Success

On the volleyball court, Reagan Ennist of Shenendehowa delivered an outstanding performance with 17 kills, leading her team past Saratoga Springs 3-0 for the Class AAA championship. Similarly, Sophie Chevalier played an essential role in Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake’s 3-0 win over South Glens Falls, helping secure their 22nd straight sectional championship.

Upcoming Matches

Looking ahead, fans can anticipate exciting games this week, with Shaker facing off against CBA at 7 p.m. Friday and Schuylerville going against Cobleskill-Richmondville. In soccer, North Salem will compete against Loudonville Christian, starting at 5:15 p.m. Friday.

As the playoffs continue, high school athletes are performing at their best, making this week a thrilling time to be a sports fan in the community.
