High School Sports Roundup: Top Performers from Last Week

This past week in high school sports brought some impressive performances from teams and individual athletes across the board. We saw high-scoring football games, thrilling soccer matches, and standout efforts on the cross country course.

In football, Lucius Anderson from CBA highlighted the action by scoring a total of four touchdowns in a dominating 69-13 victory over Colonie. Anderson’s mix of two rushing and two receiving touchdowns, along with a score on defense, had fans buzzing. Later, Kala’i Makanani of Ballston Spa also shined by rushing for 129 yards and reaching the end zone three times, helping his team edge past Queensbury 28-23.

Queensbury showed great resilience with Zavry Ward throwing for 220 yards and three touchdowns, while Kasigh Gooden caught seven passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns despite the loss.

In a big 49-7 win for Glens Falls over Lansingburgh, Brody Holcomb completed 9 of 12 passes for a whopping 244 yards and three touchdowns, with Kellen Driscoll catching five passes for 184 yards and three scores.

Shifting to soccer, the Albany boys pulled off a last-minute comeback against Shenendehowa, with Christian Bermejo tying the game and Charlie Bromirski scoring the winner in overtime.

On the girl’s side, Marie Bogue scored the game-winning goal in overtime for Guilderland, securing a dramatic 2-1 win against Colonie.

Cross country also saw impressive performances, most notably from Owen Conley, who dominated the Suburban Council championships, finishing first with a time of 14:56.3.

This week, fans can look forward to highlighted matchups, including a crucial football game between Saratoga Springs and Shenendehowa. As high school sports continue to unfold, we eagerly await what thrilling moments are in store!
