Exciting Week of Sports Ahead in Arlington

Arlington, VA – High school sports teams in Arlington are gearing up for a busy week filled with competition and excitement. In a unique scheduling twist, three public high schools will play their football games tonight, October 10, to honor the observance of Yom Kippur, which falls on Friday, October 11.

Football Matches

Fans can look forward to some thrilling football action with matches starting at 7 p.m. This evening, McLean will visit Yorktown, Langley will face Wakefield, and Marshall will take on Washington-Liberty. Additionally, on Friday night, Bishop O’Connell will travel to play John Paul the Great at 7 p.m.

Field Hockey and Golf

Field hockey enthusiasts have some exciting matches to look forward to as well. On Thursday, Trinity Episcopal will compete against Bishop O’Connell at 4 p.m. Later in the week, both Washington-Liberty and Wakefield will have games on Thursday night, with Washington-Liberty’s match against Yorktown commencing at 7:30 p.m. Furthermore, Washington-Liberty is participating in the state golf tournament this week starting at 9 a.m.

Other Sports Events

Other teams will also be active, with cross country teams from Yorktown, Wakefield, and Washington-Liberty gathering for a meet at Burke Lake Park at 4 p.m. on Thursday, while the girls and boys soccer teams will play various matches throughout the week. Notably, Bishop O’Connell’s boys soccer team will go up against DeMatha on Thursday at 4 p.m..

Volleyball and Tennis Matches

Volleyball is on the docket with several matches, including Yorktown visiting McLean and Washington-Liberty at Wakefield on Thursday at 7 p.m. There are also key girls tennis matches throughout the week, like St. John’s at Bishop O’Connell at 4 p.m.
