Greenwood, South Carolina, is buzzing with excitement as news breaks about a transformative project set to reshape the area around Lake Greenwood. A grand investment of $400 million is on the table for renovations and expansions at the old Links at Stoney Point Golf Club. This project, dubbed the Olde Eight Development, is expected to bring a whirlwind of activity and growth to our beloved community.
Local officials are optimistic that the redevelopment will not only improve the golf course but also attract tourists and spark economic development in the region. According to a press release from Greenwood Land Holdings, LLC, the developers behind this initiative, the project is “poised to be a significant economic catalyst for Greenwood County and golf tourism for the State of South Carolina.”
In an official statement, Mitch Kovitz, the managing member of the development team, shared his enthusiasm: “We couldn’t be more thrilled to bring this transformative investment to Greenwood County. Our vision is to create a vibrant destination that fosters community, opens doors for new businesses, and draws visitors from across the nation. This is just the beginning of an exciting journey for Greenwood County.”
The Olde Eight Development is expected to include hundreds of new residential units, a mix of single-family homes, and some multifamily townhomes. Alongside these new homes, residents can look forward to a full golf course, commercial spaces, and even a marina!
But wait, there’s more! This development project is also set to create 103 full-time jobs, offering residents new work opportunities. The Greenwood County Council has already approved various economic development incentives that will help reduce property taxes on the project’s commercial components. At a recent council meeting, Chairman Chuck Moates expressed his excitement for the project, stating: “This project is monumental for Greenwood County. It brings quality jobs and meaningful investment to our community while enhancing the quality of life for our residents.”
Construction for the Olde Eight Development will be conducted in phases over the next 10 to 12 years. Excitingly, the renovation of the existing golf course is already underway! Following that, the remaining phases are set to kick off in the latter part of 2025.
With this new project on the way, it’s clear that Greenwood is heading towards a bright future. The combination of residential, commercial, and recreational spaces will not only enhance what it means to live here but will also establish the area as a destination for visitors. Residents are bound to enjoy a boost in local events and activities, keeping our community engaged and vibrant.
The vision behind the Olde Eight Development is about more than just buildings; it’s about creating a space where community flourishes, where local businesses can thrive, and where visitors can experience the beauty and charm of Greenwood. The anticipation is palpable, and both residents and local officials are eager to see this exciting vision become a reality.
If you’re a Greenwood resident, this is a wonderful opportunity to engage with your community and participate in the growth and development of your home! Keep an eye out for updates on the progress, as the transformation unfolds over the coming years.
