Here’s some exciting news for the residents of Greenwood! The Greenwood County Council has been hard at work on a thrilling new project called Project Oakley, which is also known as Olde Eight. This fantastic development aims to transform the Lake Greenwood area with a staggering $400 million investment, promising to bring a multitude of residential homes and commercial businesses to the community.
Project Oakley is set to feature an impressive 18-hole golf course, delicious restaurants, scenic trails, and hundreds of residential housing units, making it the largest mixed-use project in the county’s history. According to James Bateman, the county’s economic development director, this development will enhance Greenwood as a premier destination for living and working. “Known as Olde Eight,” Bateman mentioned, “this project is monumental for Greenwood County.”
So, what exactly can we look forward to with this new project? First and foremost, hundreds of both single-family and multi-family homes, including quaint townhouses, will be developed right on and around Lake Greenwood. If you’ve ever dreamed of living close to the water, this is a chance to make that dream a reality!
Your weekend leisure time will also get a significant upgrade. The golf course, previously known as Stoney Point Links, is undergoing a major renovation scheduled to start this December, with an investment of over $100 million. The new facilities will be updated with practice areas and a classy clubhouse. The hope is to have the course fully ready for play by October 2025. Jim and Denise Medford have recently transferred management of the golf course to Olde Eight Management Group after 15 successful years, ensuring a fresh start on a beautiful community feature.
Beyond just homes and recreation, Project Oakley is expected to create 103 full-time jobs once everything is built and completed. Local businesses can also anticipate a boost, as the community will include nature trails, green spaces, commercial and conference areas, restaurants, a wellness center, a marina, and even a neighborhood general store accessible to everyone.
The development is not without its supporters. Residents of Stoney Point and local organizers have shown up in droves to back this promising project during various county council meetings. It’s heartwarming to see the community come together over an initiative that aims to elevate the region.
The construction of this remarkable development will be phased over the next 10 to 12 years, with the golf course renovation taking the lead. The subsequent phases of development are projected to kick off in the latter part of 2025. As we all anticipate the changes, it’s a wonderful time to be in Greenwood, with new opportunities sprouting up everywhere!
Mitch Kovitz, the managing member of Greenwood Land Holdings, LLC, expressed his enthusiasm about the project, saying, “We couldn’t be more thrilled to bring this transformative investment to Greenwood County. Our vision is to create a vibrant destination that fosters community, opens doors for new businesses and draws visitors from across the nation.”
With all these exciting developments on the horizon, the future of Greenwood looks bright. From new homes to recreational activities and job opportunities, it’s clear that Project Oakley is set to make a significant impact. Keep your eyes peeled for more updates as this phenomenal project takes shape!
