High School Sports Update from Vermont

As the 2024 fall season kicks off, high school sports are heating up across Vermont. Saturday saw several exciting matchups in soccer, and here’s a quick roundup of the scores and highlights from the fields.

In a close encounter, Merrimack edged out Vermont with a final score of 3-2. Rachel Bjorgan, Madison Cardaci, and Maria Lindberg each added a goal for Merrimack, while Evelyne Blais-Savoie and Alaina Tanski found the net for Vermont. Notably, Lindberg’s power play goal late in the second period allowed Merrimack to break a 2-all tie, securing their weekend sweep.

Another notable game featured St. Thomas taking the win over Vermont by 3-1. Matthew Gleason, Mason Poolman, and Cooper Gay all scored for St. Thomas, and Aaron Trotter had a strong presence in the goal with 27 saves. Vermont’s Max Strand managed to score one goal, but Keenan Rancier’s 37 saves kept them in contention.

In other action, Leland & Gray triumphed over Randolph with a score of 3-2, while Vergennes claimed a 2-1 victory against Milton. Ethan Croke shone for Vergennes, bagging two goals, including a decisive strike in the 69th minute that broke a 1-all tie.

Green Mountain won against White River Valley with a score of 3-1, and Otter Valley took down Woodstock with a 2-1 scoreline, also showcasing some great individual performances.

Looking ahead, Vermont will face UMass Lowell at 1 p.m. and then take on NJIT at 1 p.m. later in the week. Fans are encouraged to mark their calendars and come out to support their teams!
