Hey there, Laurens! It’s that time again when we get to show our support for the incredible young athletes in our community. If you didn’t know yet, voting for the GoLaurens.com Athlete of the Week is now open, and it’s time to rally behind our student athletes who are making waves in their sports!

What’s Happening?

Voting opened up on Monday at 5 PM and will remain open until 5 PM on Wednesday, October 30. So, mark your calendars and set your reminders! You can vote once a day to help your favorite athlete claim this weekly honor. The Athlete of the Week will be announced on GoLaurens.com on Wednesday evening, and we’re all eager to see who will take home the title this week!

The Nominees

This week, we have three standout nominees who have shown exceptional skills and determination:

  • Hayden Wham – Representing Laurens District 55 High School, Hayden didn’t just run; he sprinted for glory with an impressive time of 18:39, earning a spot on the All-Region team this past Saturday.
  • Peyton George – Also from Laurens District 55 High School, Peyton had a stellar performance last week with 23 kills, a surprising 90% serving percentage, not to mention 8 aces, 7 digs, and 4 blocks. What a powerhouse!
  • William Reid – A proud student-athlete at Clinton High School, William claimed victory at the Region 3-AA championship with an incredible time of 17:02. Talk about putting your school on the map!

Voting is simple, and all you need to do is head over to GoLaurens.com where you can easily cast your vote for your favorite athlete. Let’s get those votes rolling! Remember, your participation makes a big difference. Support your local talent and let them know you’re cheering for them!

What’s Next?

The GoLaurens.com Athlete of the Week is part of an exciting initiative that will run for 32 weeks throughout the 2024-2025 school year. This program highlights athletes from various local schools including Clinton High School, Laurens Academy, Laurens District High School, and Thornwell Charter School. It’s a fantastic way to recognize the talent and hard work of our youth athletes, and to keep our community buzzing with sports pride!

As we gear up to vote and support our amazing athletes, the weather is looking rather pleasant, too! Expect a mix of sunshine and clouds with a pleasant high of 71°F. As evening approaches, it will cool down to a low of 57°F. Perfect weather for heading out to watch some games or running errands before cozying up at home!
