Cloudy Skies and Exciting Football at Laurens Academy
Good morning, Laurens! If you woke up today expecting clear blue skies, you might be a little disappointed. A few showers greeted us this morning, casting a damp start to the day, while overcast skies will linger into the afternoon hours. Temperatures are expected to reach a pleasant 73°F today, with light winds to keep things comfortable. There might be a 30% chance of rain hanging around, so be sure to keep that umbrella handy, just in case!
As the day transitions into evening, we can expect a continuation of those cloudy skies, along with a possibility of a few more showers developing later on. The evening low will settle at around 64°F, with similar light winds and that ever-present 30% chance of rain keeping us on our toes. It seems a cozy night in might be on the agenda!
Celebrating the Athlete of the Week
Now, let’s turn our attention away from the weather to some exciting news from our local sports scene! This week, we’re thrilled to announce that Garrison Vaughan, a standout football player from Laurens Academy, has been named the GoLaurens.com Athlete of the Week! This recognition, presented by Self Regional Healthcare in collaboration with the Lakelands Region YMCA-Laurens and the Clinton YMCA, is all about celebrating the hard work and talent of our area’s student-athletes.
Voting for this week’s athlete kicked off on Monday at noon and wrapped up on Wednesday at the same time. During this exciting campaign, votes were cast daily by community members who were eager to support their favorite players. Garrison faced some tough competition, with fellow nominees including Will Thompson from Laurens District 55 High School and Libby Dailey from Clinton High School. However, Garrison’s impressive stats from last week helped him stand out. He racked up a remarkable 26 total tackles, along with 10 tackles for loss and even managed to force a fumble!
Laurens Academy’s head football coach, Jolly Doolittle, couldn’t be prouder of Garrison. “Garrison has had a great year so far on both sides of the ball,” he said. “He is a tireless worker, a relentless competitor, and a selfless teammate.” These words speak volumes about his dedication to the game and his team, showcasing the spirit of sportsmanship that is so valued in our community.
What’s Next?
The GoLaurens.com Athlete of the Week program will continue throughout the 2024-2025 school year, running for a total of 32 weeks. Athletes from Clinton High School, Laurens Academy, Laurens District High School, and Thornwell Charter School are all eligible for this prestigious recognition, which really highlights the immense talent around our local area.
As we look forward to more exciting matchups, we encourage everyone to come out and support our athletes. Whether rain or shine, there’s nothing quite like the energy of a local football game! And who knows, you might spot the next Athlete of the Week on the field.
So, while today might be a bit gray outside, let’s keep our spirits high and celebrate the hard work of our local athletes who shine brightly, rain or shine. That’s it for now, Laurens! Stay safe, stay dry, and enjoy the rest of your day!
