Divine Savior Holy Angels and Edgewood Shine at State Golf Championship

Madison – This weekend marked an exciting moment for high school golf as Divine Savior Holy Angels (DSHA) and Edgewood brought home state championship titles from the University Ridge Golf Course.

DSHA successfully defended their championship title in Division 1 with an impressive team total of 637, finishing a full 29 strokes ahead of their closest competitor, Prescott. Prescott had won the last four state titles in Division 2 before moving up to Division 1 this year due to the WIAA’s competitive balance initiative. Other notable finishes included Kaukauna in seventh place with a total score of 693 and Bay Port watching from ninth with a score of 710.

In the individual category, McKenna Nelson from Beaver Dam/Wayland stole the spotlight by shooting a tournament-record 65 during the first round. She rounded off her performance with a 73 in the second round, tying with Payton Haugen from Brookfield East with a total of 138. In a thrilling playoff, Nelson clinched the title with a par while Haugen bogeyed.

In Division 2, Edgewood captured the state title by posting a total score of 756, just four strokes ahead of Spooner. This win marks the 16th WIAA state title for Edgewood, their first since 2019. Seymour finished fourth with 793, while Freedom placed sixth with 865.

The individual title in Division 2 went to Belle Kongshaug of Colfax/Elk Mound, who repeated as champion with a score of 153. Morgan Lewis from Seymour and Taylor Miller from Oconto Falls finished strong, placing ninth and tenth with scores of 183 and 185, respectively.

With these results, athletes from both divisions displayed not only great skill but also an incredible level of sportsmanship throughout the tournament. As the golf season comes to a close, these young athletes are looking forward to what the future holds for them, both on and off the course.
