Laurens Hosts Second Diaper Drive-Thru Event
In the friendly city of Laurens, families are coming together to support one another in the wake of Hurricane Helene’s aftermath. The Upstate Pregnancy Center is stepping up its efforts to provide much-needed assistance as many families struggle with the challenges brought about by this recent storm.
When and Where
This Tuesday, October 15, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, the Upstate Pregnancy Center will be hosting its second Diaper Drive-Thru event. After holding its first successful drive-thru on October 8, the center is eager to help more families in need. The upcoming event will take place in the parking lot of Wattsville Drug, located at 24 Sirrine Street. It’s an easy, no-fuss way for families to receive essential supplies without having to worry about long lines or crowded spaces.
What’s Available?
During the drive-thru, families will receive a variety of essential items. Each eligible family will get free diapers, wipes, and formula (while supplies last) — a real lifeline for families juggling the stresses of post-storm life. Plus, the center will also be distributing non-perishable food bags to help against food insecurity.
Brenda Stewart, Chair of the Upstate Pregnancy Center, mentioned, “We’ve seen an increase in families needing support in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, and we’re grateful to be able to expand our services this month.” This sentiment reflects the heart and compassion that drives this essential community service.
Eligibility and Requirements
To take advantage of these resources, families simply need to present a parent or guardian’s photo ID along with supporting documentation that can include birth certificates, WIC or Medicaid cards, or even foster care paperwork. Keep in mind that IDs are only required for a family’s first visit, making it easier to come back for more if needed.
Each family is eligible to receive one pack of diapers and wipes per child, allowing for support of up to two children per household. It’s a great way to ensure that every little one gets the help they need during such tough times.
Community Support
The Upstate Pregnancy Center is keenly aware that the current situation is affecting many families, hence their effort to expand their support options. However, with the increased demand, there’s a need for more resources. The center is specifically seeking donations of larger diaper sizes, particularly sizes 4 to 7 and pull-ups, to accommodate growing babies and toddlers. If you’d like to lend a helping hand, donations can be delivered to several local spots including:
- Sadler Hughes Apothecary in Clinton
- Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices C. Dan Joyner Realtors in Clinton
- Sanitary Market in Laurens (located at 124 E Public Square)
Final Thoughts
As we look forward to a brighter future in our community, events like the Upstate Pregnancy Center’s Diaper Drive-Thru embody the spirit of unity and generosity. If you or someone you know could benefit from these resources, be sure to mark your calendar for October 15. Together, we can help each other rebuild and thrive, proving that in times of need, communities truly come together!
