DE PERE – The high school golf season has seen some exciting competition as the Denmark girls’ team clinched the team title with a score of 406, just edging out Freedom, who finished with 408. Both Denmark and Freedom, along with Winneconne, earned spots in the upcoming sectional meet, which is scheduled for October 8 at Crystal Springs in Seymour.

Individually, Freedom’s Kay Lee McClintock stood out by shooting a remarkable 91, earning her the title of individual medalist. Denmark’s leading golfer, Whitney Derricks, followed closely behind with a score of 99.

The sectional meet will also feature several individual qualifiers, including Caroline Vanden Heuvel from Xavier, Callaway Goodman from Kiel, and Amelia Eiting from Little Chute, all of whom will compete for a chance to advance further in the championship series.

In other sports action, at the Fox Valley Association volleyball match, the Lightning from Appleton North triumphed over Fond du Lac in a nail-biting five-set match with scores of 22-25, 25-18, 29-31, 25-9, 15-12. Coach Steve Scheuerell commended his team for their resilience against a tough opponent.

The Lightning’s standout performers included Chloe North, who delivered an impressive 31 digs and four aces, while Lydia Koshuta excelled with 31 assists. Other significant contributions came from Kayden Lamon with 17 kills and three blocks.

Meanwhile, Neenah dominated the conference tournament, claiming six out of seven flight titles and achieving an overall tournament score of 62 points. Kimbery’s Julia Gurholt secured the No. 1 singles title for the third consecutive year, maintaining an impressive career record of 101 matches won.

As the season unfolds, anticipation grows for the sectional meet and the intense playoff races ahead.
