Clinton Gears Up to Honor Local Heroes
Clinton, South Carolina, is set to hold a heartfelt tribute for the firefighters and first responders who heroically tackled a massive blaze that engulfed several businesses in the downtown area on August 27. This special event will unfold during the halftime of the Presbyterian College Blue Hose football game against Gardner-Webb University, happening at 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 21, at the Bailey Memorial Stadium.
A Salute to Courage
The devastating fire that took place a few weeks ago was a wake-up call for the community, reminding everyone of the vital role that these everyday heroes play in ensuring our safety. “We are deeply grateful for this opportunity to honor the many first responders who put themselves at risk daily to protect people and property,” said PC athletic director Dee Nichols. He emphasizes the college’s commitment to publicly thanking these brave individuals for their swift action when it was needed the most.
This upcoming “Hometown Heroes” event is not just a celebration but a heartfelt recognition of the dedication and bravery shown by first responders from a remarkable 31 agencies across Laurens County and the Upstate. Each firefighter and first responder who took part that day, along with their families, will receive complimentary tickets and reserved seating at the game, ensuring they feel the warmth of the community’s gratitude.

Dr. Anita Gustafson, the president of Presbyterian College, also expressed her immense appreciation for the responders, stating, “At Presbyterian College, we believe that service to others and to the community is paramount.” She acknowledges the daring efforts of these individuals, crediting them for their expert training and quick thinking during a life-threatening scenario.
