Clinton to Honor Local Heroes at Upcoming Football Game

This September, the city of Clinton is coming together to pay tribute to the brave firefighters and first responders who took swift action during a major fire that shook the downtown area on August 27. It’s a heartwarming gesture that underscores the strength and resilience of this community.

First Responders’ Recognition at Presbyterian College

On September 21, at halftime of the football game between the Blue Hose and Gardner-Webb University, all eyes will be on the field as Presbyterian College honors those outstanding individuals who risked their lives to protect others. Firefighters and first responders from an impressive 31 different agencies across Laurens County and the Upstate participated in the response to the devastating blaze. This will not only be a day of remembrance, but also a celebration of courage.

In a warm gesture, all firefighters and first responders, along with their families, will receive complimentary tickets and reserved seating for what is being dubbed the “Hometown Heroes” event. It’s a wonderful way for the community to show its appreciation for those who selflessly serve.

Words of Gratitude from College Officials

Dee Nichols, the athletic director at Presbyterian College, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the first responders. “We are deeply grateful for this opportunity to honor the many first responders who put themselves at risk daily to protect people and property — and we want to thank them publicly for their quick response when we needed it,” she said. Her words reflect the sentiment that echoes throughout the community.

The president of Presbyterian College, Dr. Anita Gustafson, also chimed in with her thoughts, emphasizing the college’s commitment to serving the community. “At Presbyterian College, we believe that service to others and to the community is paramount,” she stated. “On August 27, first responders from all over Laurens County and the Upstate bravely answered the call to serve during a dangerous and life-threatening situation.” She continued to highlight the importance of these heroes, showcasing how their commitment and expertise truly matter in times of crisis.
