Laurens County Celebrates Outstanding Tenth Graders with 2024 Cecil Davenport Citizenship Award Nominations

In the heart of Laurens County, excitement is buzzing as exceptional tenth-grade students are being recognized with the esteemed 2024 Cecil Davenport Citizenship Award nominations. This award, which has been spotlighting the brilliance of young individuals since 1996, pays homage to the late Cecil O. Davenport, a notable Chamber Executive whose legacy continues to inspire.

The nominees represent some of the finest talents from high schools across the area, including Clinton High School, Laurens Academy, and Laurens District 55 High School. These awards focus on a trifecta of impressive qualities: academic dedication, mature decision-making, and a commitment to community service. It’s evident that these students are not just doing well in their studies but are also making significant contributions to their communities!

Spotlighting Laurens Academy Nominees

At Laurens Academy, two bright stars have emerged in the nomination list. First up is Ethan Michael Collins, who not only excels academically but also shines on the football field as the varsity quarterback. Being a member of the National Honor Society, he balances his sports and leadership roles with impressive community service, embodying the essence of a dedicated student.

Another nominee from this school is Morgan Bolding, whose zest for life is palpable. An avid traveler and foodie, Morgan is a huge fan of the USC Gamecocks and Chicago Bears. She keeps busy with volleyball, cheer, softball, student council, NHS, and music—talk about a well-rounded student!

Recognition for Laurens District 55 High School Nominees

Moving over to Laurens District 55 High School, the list of nominees showcases a diverse range of talents. For instance, Sara Beth Field, who serves as Class Treasurer and FBLA Secretary, is not only a top tennis player but also has stellar public speaking skills. Her active engagement in community and church service beautifully ties into the essence of the award.

Weston Coggins is another standout, known for his musical talents and leadership as sophomore class president. He’s not one to shy away from challenges, getting involved in both singing and playing the violin, alongside active participation in student council and a youth group.

A creative force, Dylan Brink, finds joy in outdoor activities, 3D printing, and music as a first-chair cellist. He also proves to be quite athletic, competing in varsity tennis and FBLA.

Then there’s Omariye Thompson, who thrives in sports like basketball and track while also leading on the student council and Mayor’s Youth Council. And let’s not forget Marley Benson, who is not only a competitive cheerleader but also participates in track and pole vaulting, showing off her flair for both athletics and community service.

Shining Nominees from Clinton High School

Last but not least, Clinton High School has some notable nominees making waves. Samuel Hunt, with his interests in psychology and neuroscience, stands out for his participation in the Science Olympiad and Beta Club, and his contributions to community mental health initiatives are commendable.

Jacob Keadle, identified as tech-savvy, shows great creativity through his involvement in robotics and Boy Scouts, excelling at 3D visualization while indulging in sewing and gaming. That’s a unique blend of talents!

Libby Dailey is another impressive candidate; she’s juggling her passions for tennis, soccer, and skeet/trap shooting while engaging in JROTC and various community service projects. With a knack for both music and sports, Libby’s versatility stands out.

Then there’s Ella Kate Haupfear, who balances her love for volleyball, softball, and crafts with her role in sports and a Bible study group, sharing her enthusiasm with friends and peers. To round it all off, Natalie Meade, a dynamic leader and captain of the varsity soccer team, is equally making a mark in community service through JROTC and church youth groups, truly embodying what it means to be a positive leader.

It’s clear that each of these nominees from Laurens County’s high schools is indeed deserving of recognition. As we look forward to the awards ceremony, it’s heartening to see such bright futures ahead for these young leaders who are already taking an active role in making their communities better.
