Silver Spring, MD – Last month, local resident Craig Esherick celebrated a remarkable achievement as he was inducted into the Hall of Fame at his high school alma mater, Springbrook High School. The special ceremony took place on October 19 at Argyle Country Club, where Esherick joined eight other honorees in recognition of his outstanding contributions to boys basketball.
Esherick, who graduated from Springbrook in 1974, was honored for his impressive basketball career during his high school years. In an interview, he reflected on his time at Springbrook, expressing gratitude for the experiences he had and the coaches who guided him. “I feel very lucky to have played for Springbrook and for good coaches along the way,” he told attendees. “It was so much fun, with great memories.”
During his high school career, Esherick was particularly noted for his exceptional skills as an outside shooter. His standout performance earned him several accolades, including all-county and all-state honors, as well as a spot on the all-Met team selected by local newspapers. His senior season was particularly memorable, as he averaged 18 points per game and scored a career-high of 38 points in a single game. He also ended his Springbrook career with a notable 26 points in his final game, although the team faced a semifinal loss in the Maryland state tournament.
Esherick’s success at Springbrook paved the way for a collegiate career at Georgetown University, where he played for four seasons before transitioning into coaching. He eventually became the head coach of the Hoyas and continues to contribute to local sports. In 2022, he was also inducted into the Arlington Sports Hall of Fame, further solidifying his status as a prominent figure in the local sports community.
Now residing in Arlington with his wife and two sons, who also played basketball at Yorktown High School, Esherick remains an inspiration to young athletes in the area.
