High School Sports Roundup: Action from Friday

This Friday brought plenty of exciting high school sports action across the region. In a thrilling girls’ soccer matchup, Lyman Hall managed to secure a victory over Mercy with a score of 3-1. The goals for Lyman Hall came from Ella Cramner, Mattingly Andrews, and Kaylin Findley, while Catalina Koji scored the lone goal for Mercy. With this win, Lyman Hall improved their record to 4-12, and Mercy fell to 2-13-1.

In the FCIAC quarterfinals, it was a nail-biter between Brien McMahon and Fairfield Ludlowe. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, but McMahon triumphed in the penalty shootout, winning 3-2. Another strong performance came from Hopkins, who dominated Cheshire Academy with a convincing 3-0 score, thanks to goals from Tommy Pont Strong, Sean Studley, and Nate Huang.

In the NVL quarterfinals, Seymour faced Ansonia in a tightly contested match that ended in a 0-0 draw. Seymour advanced by winning 3-1 in penalty kicks. The standout performers were Seymour’s Ashlin Galietta with six saves and Ansonia’s Weston Ahern, who made nine saves. Morgan also had a strong showing, defeating Haddam-Killingworth 3-0 with goals from Kate Gardner, Sadie Passante, and a penalty kick from Rachel Spaziano.

On the volleyball courts, Cheshire overcame Sheehan with a final score of 3-0, showcasing impressive performances, especially from Eva Catalanotto with 13 kills. Trumbull also secured a decisive 3-0 victory over Westhill, and Wolcott Tech swept Terryville in the same manner. Wolcott Tech’s Melissa Muscaro stood out with 17 assists.
