High School Sports Roundup: Competitive Games and Fierce Rivalries
This past week in sports saw exciting matchups across multiple schools. The games offered closely contested plays and impressive team performances.
In a thrilling soccer showdown, Bacon Academy faced off against Ledyard, resulting in a 1-1 tie after regulation. Senior captain Eddie Hageman scored the first goal for the Bobcats with an assist from junior Zach Russo. However, Ledyard responded in the second half with a goal by Ben Crowe, assisted by Sean O’Brien. The match ended with Ledyard claiming victory 4-3 in the penalty shootout, thanks to two crucial saves by goalie Paulo Templeton.
Switching gears to the girls’ soccer scene, East Lyme secured a dominant 3-0 win over Norwich Free Academy. Junior Caleb Trost was a standout, netting two goals and providing an assist to Garrison Biggs, who also scored. NFA’s goalkeeper Kaiden Walsh made an impressive 10 saves in a losing effort.
In volleyball, Amity proved their prowess by defeating Guilford in straight sets, winning 3-0. Notable performances came from Maya Thompson, who tallied 11 kills, while Sam Alberghini contributed to the defense with 11 digs.
At the pool, the Hamden swim team encountered Mercy, capturing a solid 91-76 victory. Swimmers like Olivia Nowacki and Francesca Debs led their relays and individual events to ensure Hamden’s day in the pool ended on a high note.
