Vermont High School Sports Kick Off with an Exciting Start in Burlington
The 2024 Vermont high school fall sports season has officially begun, bringing a fresh wave of excitement to the local sports community. As teams compete in various sports like soccer, field hockey, volleyball, golf, and cross-country running, the scoreboard is quickly filling with impressive results.
In soccer action, the Rice team dominated Mount Mansfield with an impressive 8-1 victory. Lanah Quong led the charge with an astounding 4 goals and 1 assist. Her teammates Violet Clough and Emeri Rasco also contributed notably, securing the win for Rice. Mount Mansfield managed to score through Abby Hussey, but it wasn’t enough to keep pace with Rice’s onslaught.
Essex also showcased a strong performance, defeating Mount Abraham 2-0. Zuzu Rooney and Calleigh Bruyns made sure the scoreboard reflected Essex’s control, with stellar aid from goalkeeper Sophie Krauss, who had 4 saves.
South Burlington had a commanding win against Burlington, finishing with an 8-0 score. Elise Knoth and Jill Coucke were key players, each scoring a goal and adding two assists. Their depth in scoring created challenges for Burlington, who managed only 8 saves from their goalie Adia Platt.
In other notable games, Colchester blanked Middlebury 8-0, while Woodstock won decisively against Springfield with a 6-0 shutout. Over in volleyball, Essex seized a quick victory against South Burlington, winning all three sets with scores of 25-16, 25-12, 25-13.
