Laurens County Revolutionary War 250th Sestercentennial Committee Announces Winners of Essay Competition

Laurens County, SC – In a recent effort to engage students in the rich history of Laurens County, the Laurens County Revolutionary War 250th Committee (LC250), in collaboration with The South Carolina Revolutionary War 250th Commission (SC250) and The Laurens County Chamber of Commerce (LCCC), announced the winners of their essay competition.

The competition, which was open to all public, private, and home school students in Laurens County, aimed to spur interest in the county’s significant contributions to the American Revolutionary War. Titled “Laurens County Contributions to Revolutionary War Victory,” the contest invited students to explore and reflect on the county’s impact on the war’s outcome.

Winners of the Essay Competition:

1st Place: Malik McCurry, Sanders Middle School

2nd Place: Winter Young, Sanders Middle School

We are thrilled to see the creativity and historical insights that our students have showcased through this competition,” said Ernie Segars, Chair of the Laurens County Revolutionary War 250th Sestercentennial Committee. “These projects not only honor our County’s rich Revolutionary War history but also foster a deeper connection between our youth and their heritage.”

The winning essays demonstrated exceptional creativity, insight, and a profound understanding of Laurens County’s role in the Revolutionary War. Cash prizes were awarded to both the first and second place winners. The entries were judged by members of the Education Committee and winners were announced during the Revolutionary War Lecture series at The Laurens County Museum.
